2d Lt Emily Perez A Woman of Honor and Valor

This is a tribute to 2D Lt. Emily Perez. She is the inspiration for our Face of America Project.

During the concert celebrating America's Heroes; Past, Present and Future at the 2013 Medal of Honor Convention, I had a sentimental moment when the West Point Glee Club sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic. The powerful poetic words of that American masterpiece made me think about an American treasure Emily Perez her life, her leadership at West Point, her courageous service to America, and her premature death at age 23 in Iraq.

This video is a special birthday present for her mother and an expression of gratitude for Emily's service to America.

In this video, we pay honor to our friends in Shanksville, PA, whose work at the People's Memorial to the Heroes of Flight 93 helped to heal the wounds of loss.

George N. Parks: A Genuine Face of America

George Parks, the Director of the UMass Minuteman Marching Band, was a dear friend. We had a wonderful telephone conversation shortly before our Face of America trip to Fenway Park. We began the planning stage for a Face of America episode about his work with the band.

If ever there was a person who personified the Face of America on its best days, it was George. His enthusiastic pursuit of excellence was infectious. His leadership skills inspired thousands of young people to live a life of service to community and country. His kindness made an indelible mark on my soul.

This is a musical tribute crafted by someone who admired, respected and loved the man, his music and his band. My wife and I are devastated by the loss of our dear friend.

Thomas Merton was right:

Death is something you see very clearly with eyes in the center of your heart.
